* Key functions of the BMS (Battery Management System) in pallet trucks:
- Cell balancing: A battery consists of many individual cells. The BMS ensures that all cells charge and discharge evenly. Without balancing, a single weak cell could damage the entire battery pack.
- Protection against overcharging and deep discharge: The BMS cuts off the power if the battery is fully charged or if the voltage drops below a critical threshold—a level that would cause irreversible damage to lithium cells.
- Protection against overcurrent and short circuits: When a pallet truck starts moving with a heavy load or travels up an incline, current consumption increases sharply. The BMS prevents dangerous current spikes.
- Thermal management: This monitors the battery temperature. If the truck is overloaded and the battery heats up (or if it operates in a cold-storage environment below 0°C), the BMS limits operation or shuts down the system for safety reasons.
